"Josh brings more than just talent and knowledge. He has a passion for teaching and an enthusiasm for music that makes him approachable to the students within minutes. Josh spent the day at Aloha and was effective working concert band, jazz band, brass masterclasses, and just sharing insight on the life of a professional musician."
- Patrick Refsnider, Director of Bands, Aloha H.S., Portland, OR
Josh is an outstanding teacher of both the trumpet and music composition. I have seen him first hand working with my trumpet students both individually and in sectionals. Every single student of mine that Josh has worked with comes away not only sounding better but also having a greater enthusiasm for playing the trumpet. That is priceless! Not only does he have deep knowledge of brass technique but he knows how to teach it in a way that makes it accessible for every kind of learner. He can tailor his instruction to give each individual exactly what they need. He combines improvisation technique with legit trumpet skills seamlessly. Josh makes every lesson fun while also ensuring that his students attain the highest technical skills.
As a composition teacher for our Young Composers & Improvisors Workshop program, as well as in private instruction, Josh has helped many, many students become real composers. His knowledge of both jazz and classical music is tied together with a unique understanding of how music works. He brings strong piano skills to his composition lessons and helps students use the keyboard to compose. His students have had their music performed by professional musicians at Le Poisson Rouge in NYC. Josh is a teacher, composer and performer of the highest order. I have referred many, many students to him and each and every one has grown tremendously!

"Josh did incredible work with all of our students during his residency at our school. He brings such a deep wealth of knowledge and experience to all his endeavors. The work he did with our program, the rehearsals, masterclasses, and improv exercises, have made a deep and lasting impact on our students and our program. Josh also composed an excellent piece for our ensemble that was the perfect balance of musical challenge and pure fun that our students loved learning and performing."

A great friend and mentor, Josh's guidance has greatly fine tuned my technical and creative facilities on the horn. In doing so he has widened the scope of my musical perception and encouraged me to take on ever-advancing artistic endeavors. His instruction is unique in that it has provided me insight on how to conduct myself on AND off the stage.
- Ben Caiazza, former trumpet student
"We hoped to find someone to give the kids the tools to not only enjoy music, but to explore it. The most important gift that Josh has given our kids is the confidence and skills to make music their own. Their experience with him has been invaluable." - Tami Nguyen, parent of piano students Izzy & Q
"I think Josh is a great teacher because he challenges his students to push themselves. He is also nice and fun to be with." - Q, age 9
"My favorite thing about Josh is at the end of a lesson we do some free styling and I get to improvise and rock out!" - Izzy, age 12
